Next Vocabulary Test/Wizard of Oz

Wrapping up before spring break...

These kids definitely have spring fever!  We had a big talk the other day about buckling down and staying focused.  I explained to them that we still have lots of work to do and not much time to do it.  Hopefully my talk got through to them! Hoping warmer weather comes soon so that they can burn off some of this energy.  :)

Vocabulary

Next week we will take our vocabulary test on Wednesday, March 22.  Here are the links to the Quizlet pages if your child enjoys using Quizlet to practice with.

3rd grade is working on Chapter 10 in Growing Your Own Vocabulary.

4th Grade is on Lesson 15.  Please remember to have your child study the cumulative page at the end of the lesson. This will be vitally important as we continue on.

Only 5 more lessons to go after this one!  YAY!

Wizard of Oz

We have started the state unit.  The main novel for this unit is the Wizard of Oz.  Although we haven't started reading it yet.  We are working on understanding the differences between the types of folktales.  This is an interesting unit and I hope the children enjoy it.  I will keep you posted as to when we actually start digging into the novel.  There will be some reading required at home.

ISTEP and IREAD and other important information...

ISTEP and IREAD

4th grade is done with this first round of ISTEP testing.  They did an excellent job and worked very hard all 3 days.  I was very proud of their efforts and endurance.

Third grade will actually be taking ISTEP on Monday, March 6 and Tuesday, March 7.

IREAD will be on Tuesday, March 14.

As always, please make sure your kids have a good nights rest, a healthy breakfast, and lots of positive talk and praise.

Next week...

Next week we will have our last literature circle for The Lion, the Witch, and The Wardrobe on Wednesday, February 8th.  (Freedom Train group had their last one on Friday).  It has been a very interesting unit.  I have discovered many things about my group.  Many of the children need to work on responsibility in completing assignments here at school and at home.  It's been a challenging yet wonderful novel to read and discuss.  We will be having a Get Creative project for the novel that your child read.  Look for more information to come home about this on Wednesday after our last literature circle.  These will need to be completed at home.

Our next vocabulary test will be on Friday, February 17th. Please don't forget to utilize Quizlet https://quizlet.com/Waltersemily to help your child study.  Lists for this test will be coming home on Monday for 3rd grade.  Please make sure your child keeps their list in the back of their yellow folder. 4th grade needs to use their book to help them study.

Please let me know if you ever have any questions about assignments and when they are due.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Walters Reading: Next Literature Circle and Vocabulary Quiz

Just a reminder that we will be having our next literature circle tomorrow, Friday, January 20.   Each child should have read their chapters for week 3 AND completed the assignment that goes along with it.  Please check in with your child to make sure they are ready to participate in the literature circle tomorrow.

Our next vocabulary quiz will be on January 27th.  3rd grade is working on Chapter 4: Space is the Place and 4th grade is on Lesson 11 in Caesar's English.

Yesterday we got to sample Turkish Delight just like Edmund in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The children discovered that Turkish Delight is a sweet gummy treat covered in powdered sugar.  Ask your child if they liked it.
